Truth Matters β Association for Information Literacy is an Austrian non-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening information literacy, combating disinformation and manipulative narratives, and promoting a neutral, fact-based public discourse.
We advocate for compliance with national and international legal norms β including international law, EU law, and fundamental rights β and document deviations transparently, enabling citizens to engage in informed democratic participation.
We understand ourselves as an independent platform for the promotion of transparency, critical media literacy, and respectful public discourse.
The association was founded on 12 January 2026 in Vienna and is registered under Austrian law (Vereinsgesetz 2002).
We strengthen the public's ability to critically evaluate information, assess sources, and recognise manipulative narratives β as the foundation of democratic participation.
We advocate for reporting grounded in verified facts that represents all perspectives fairly and does not favour any political or institutional agenda. Disinformation does not become truth through repetition.
We hold states and institutions accountable to national and international legal norms β including international humanitarian law, EU law, and fundamental rights β documenting departures transparently.
Disinformation does not merely impair individual judgement β it corrodes trust in institutions, polarises societies, and creates the conditions for violations of legal norms and human rights.
β Statutes of Truth Matters, Vienna, 12 January 2026
We conduct systematic research and monitoring projects on disinformation, media reporting, and compliance with information and transparency standards.
We use freedom of information laws, regulatory proceedings, and international mechanisms to audit state compliance with legal norms, publishing our findings publicly.
We organise lectures, seminars, workshops and provide online resources, equipping citizens with tools for critical media evaluation.
We promote dialogue with media outlets, educational institutions, academia, and civil society organisations at national and international level.
We produce and disseminate analyses, reports, and information materials on information integrity, media policy, and democratic transparency.
We collaborate with national and international institutions to advance information literacy and compliance with international legal and human rights norms.
